We are staying at the Whitefish Bicycle Retreat in Whitfish, Montana. It is an exceptional bike resort. The staff goes out of their way to help. We will also be staying here on the night after our first leg. It is 100+ miles from Roosville. Our starting place on the border with Canada. After you look at the pictures of this place, you may think we will have it easy. But it was raining all day today so tomorrow will be a muddy mess and we were told that there is still some sno

Tour Divide 2017 Route with Cue Sheet
Thanks to Scott Morris from Topofusion, and his GPS data, we were able to add a cuesheet to the route using Ride with GPS. I have been using this software for a few years, but in deeper detail for the last few months, and I have to say it's been great to me. With Ride with GPS, you can search for a ride in your area on our route search page without logging in. If you want to draw a map, then go to their route planner and start one on your own, very user friendly. To upload ri

We are please to announce the charities benefiting from the Continental Divide Charity Ride
After much work on the part of our charities, we are pleased to announce that Mental Health American and The Semper Fi Fund will be co-beneficiaries for our ride. 100% of funds donated will be going directly to the charities and all of the funds will be split 50/50 between the two charities. These two charities are doing tremendous good for our country and deserve our full support. Both charities are very highly ranked by charitywatch.org. Please visit their individual web

The Vino Fondo, 104 miles 5,495 feet of climbing on an absolutely beautiful day.
It was great to be out riding today. Wonderful weather. The Vino Fondo is a timed cycling event put on by Big Shark Bicycling Company around the Augusta area. Two 100+ mile rides in three days. I did not feel very tired at all during or after the ride today. The training for the trip is coming along nicely. Continuous gradual increases in effort yields great results over time. So I rode 103 miles on the Katy Trail on Thursday. That ride was 103 miles long and had 732 feet

20 miles of training on "The Day the Floods Came"
As normal, today's training was in cold, rainy, windy weather except I had to cut it short because the Missouri River was over the Katy Trail. There was water over the trail at a couple of spots until I was almost at the Boone Bridge. Then the trail was completely flooded as far as I could see. I took a picture of it along with several others including a big fallen tree, a flooded Cadillac, a flooded house and Greens Bottom road completely covered. Things did not go well f

104 Miles Training 4/28/17 on Katy Trail on the "Day of Fallen Timbers"
Training went well yesterday. As I said in my previous post the morning was cold, windy and wet. The wind was very cold. I was on the Outlook in Klondike Park and had to leave because the wind was so strong and cold that I was freezing. As usually happens, the wind was in my face all the way out, and I was looking forward to a nice tailwind on the way back. No luck. The sun broke through which was nice and the weather cleared up and wind died. No tailwind. There were fo

12pm 51 miles into ride in beautiful Treloar Missouri
Treloar(pronounced tree lore, not trailer) halfway through ride. Pretty eventful. Saw what I think now was a copperhead snake on the trail, ran over(accidentally) a black snake on the trail, avoided a tortoise, had a flat 32 miles into ride and have had a fierce headwind all day. Barry, I think the financial institution in the photo is looking for an advisor. #Katytrail #cycling #bicycle #charity #continentaldivide #training #Treloar

103 miles of training today. Added some climbing to the mix.
Everything went well. I used the Garmin LiveTrack app for the first time to allow people to watch progress during rides. When we are riding the Continental Divide, I plan on using this to allow whoever is interested to see where we are and the progress we are making. This can be combined with the blog posts with photos and videos to give you the feel of being out there with us. Weather was pretty good. The temperature was moderate, but there was a strong, chilly wind all d
Training ride for April 6 - 102 miles.
For tomorrow's ride, I plan on using the Garmin LiveTrack app. This will allow you to follow my progress and and see my location through Facebook, if that has any interest for you. Tomorrow I plan to ride 102 miles on the Katy Trail. I will leave the trail a few times to add some climbing into the ride. For anybody who is wondering why I am posting the information for my training rides, my brother-in-law(David) and I are riding the the Continental Divide this summer from Ro

112.5 Miles on the Katy Trail Today. Raining for a lot of the day
Was a good day for training and testing out equipment and myself in the rains. Everything went well excepts I killed my MP3 player by getting water on it. Katy Trail was very mushy in spots from the rain. Like riding through quicksand You might think that the Katy Trail is an easy ride because it is flat. There are a couple things to consider, however. Because it is flat you have to always be pedaling. There are no coasting down hill areas. In addition, because it is grave
